Bourjois Spring Sweet Paris Collection 2012

Bourjois have the most adorable sweet range launching in stores this spring.  Aptly named Sweet Paris, this range is all about delicious treats in beautiful shades that you would expect to find on a macaroon or in a candy store.
The range includes two new 10 Day Nail Enamels, a new Pink Round Eyeshadow Pot and two beautiful new Effet 3D Lipglosses.  I have the whole range here which I have reviewed and swatched for you below!

1
7

First up are the two beautiful 10 Days Nail Enamel polishes. These two colours are absolutely perfect for Spring (pastel colours are always very on trend) and they compliment each other so beautifully!  Like the other 10 Day Anti Chip nail varnishes, these two have a slanted brush which makes it easy to apply extra polish in small areas if the polish does chip.  They are both really easy to use and pigmented, needing only two coats each.

2
#25 Pastel Coral – THE most perfect pink for this Summer.  Both my sister and I received countless compliments on our nails when we wore this out.

3
#26 Pinky-Muave – A gorgeous lilac purple which is more pink based than blue based.  Again, this is super cute for summer and very easy to wear.

4
9

I generally love Bourjois Lip Glosses as they are non sticky and smell amazing – like sherbet.  These two are no exception.    Classic Effet 3D Lipgloss in #51 Rose Chimeric is a pretty pale pink which is quite clear on the lips – nice for daily use over any colour lipstick.  #52 Corail Iylliic is of course my favourite though; it’s a gorgeous coral shade which adds a hint of peach to my lips.

Also available in the Sweet Paris Collection is a new Round Pot Eyeshdaow in #15 which is a soft feminine pink.  It adds a subtle flush of femininity to the eyes, but you can also use it as a blusher!

What I think – As usual Bourjois have come up trumps with their Spring Collection.  This range is so pretty and girly and will last throughout the warm seasons this year.  I really, really like Bourjois as a range in general – I think their products are of a high quality and the colours and shades available are wide (and always growing).

The Lip Glosses will retail at £7.69 each, and the 10 Day Nail Enamel polishes at £5.99 each and will be available in Boots or Superdrug stores, as well as online.

Will you be picking up any of the Sweet Paris Collection?  What shades will you be sporting this Spring?

Sure Maximum Challenge RESULTS!

I’m back with the results of my Sure Maximum Protection Challenge. You can read my first post about this here. So this week I’ve been testing the deodorant out in hot, nerve-wracking and awkward situations to see if it can really keep me cool and protected all day long.

Firstly, I want to tell you a little about the actual product and how to use it. The Sure Maximum Protection Deodorants work best when you apply them before going to bed. When I read this I was a little unsure but I can tell you know that you do get the best results when applying at night. When your body is sleeping, your temperature is at its most consistent and the sweat glands are least active, meaning the skin is more receptive to the deodorant. Over night the deodorant works to build a strong level of protection for your armpits, so you will get the best results. You can of course still shower in the morning and the deodorant magically still works all day long.

To use the product you have to turn the wheel at the bottom two clicks for each armpit and the creamy formula rises up through little holes; this gives the perfect amount of product and means you’re not wasting any.

I’ve tried both the Confidence and Sensitive Deods and they are both lovely but smell slightly different. Confidence has a more sweet, floral scent, whilst Sensitive is a little more musky, but still lovely. On to the results -

Challenge 1 – EXERCISE! I have been feeling like I need to get fit recently and so I set myself the challenges of going jogging and working out this week. Please note that I haven’t actually exercised properly or jogged for at least five years so this itself was a challenge! I started my jog at 1pm on Wednesday morning – the sun was shining and I persuaded my lovely mother to join me. We ventured down to the park at the top of our road and began!
As soon as I started running I realised actually how hot the weather actually was, but this didn’t worry me as I had full confidence that the Sure deod would work. Twenty minutes later I was all worn out and ready for a cup of tea at home, but not before the deod test. After a quick sniff of myself (niceeee) and a touch test, I can safely report that I was still smelling sweet and dry to touch under my arms.

4
Before & after my exercise!

Challenge 2 – Job Interview! I have recently been going through the dreaded job hunting journey that most people face after studying. On Monday I sent off a CV and cover letter for a job and I was asked for an interview on Thursday. Another hot day, another challenge which was bound to have me nervous and a little sweaty; I faced both a bus, a train and a long walk to the interview in the heat, but no! After my interview I still felt cool and protected.
I can also confirm that I got the job (a weeks full time work with a fantastic company)! (maybe this deod is lucky as well, ha!)

What I think – I am really impressed with this deodorant. It lasts ages on the skin and works really well to keep me dry and protected throughout the day in busy, nerve wrecking situations where I am out of my comfort zone. They both smell lovely and don’t irritate my sensitive skin at all. The only fault I can find is that if you wear black you may experience some white transfer on to your clothing!

Sure Maximum Deodorants should be available from all leading retailers for £5.30. You can also read more about it here - http://www.surewomen.co.uk/MaximumProtection/.

Do you think you will try this deodorant? When are you most out of your comfort zone?

FOTD: 60s inspired look!

I’ve recently become a little obsessed with 60s makeup and have been experimenting with different ways of wearing makeup to emphasize my eyes.  One of the most classic and obvious ways to make the eyes appear bigger and brighter is to apply a white kohl pencil on your water line.  Taking this as inspiration, I created the look below.  I’d call it 60s makeup with a peachy modern twist!

I decided to also wear my hair up for this look to add a bit of glamour and sophistication, which you can see below.  I only have one image of my eyes closed wearing this look (which is unfortunately bad quality as I took it on my ipod), but I’ll put it below also, so you can see where the eyeshadow was applied.

I really love, love, love this makeup look so I’ll definitely be wearing it more often – although I would say this looks 10x better when worn with false lashes (which I don’t want to be wearing daily) but it’s nice to add some glamour to everyday life!

Sure Maximum Protection Challenge!

I know deodorant isn’t the most interesting topics to read about on a beauty blog, but it’s something that we use every day and which is actually quite an important product in daily life, so these posts should be helpful to most of you!

I have taken on a challenge – to use a brand spanking new deodorant which is just hitting the market, and put it through a number of tests (think nerve-wracking, embarrassing, stressful situations) to test whether it can control my sweat!  The product in questions is the new Sure Women Maximum Protection Deodorants.

1

This is apparently two times stronger than the normal leading antiperspirants on the market and are perfect to keep you protected and sweat free in all situations.  This means you can go about your daily life and not have to worry about getting hot and flustered on a packed rush hour train, or not have to worry about lifting your arms up during a yoga lesson.

These are available in two new forms; confidence (to keep you dryer for longer) and sensitive (if you suffer with sensitive skin and broken skin under the arms).  I have been trialling these out for the past two weeks and will be updating you on my challenge on Friday (to put myself through situations which are out of my comfort zone whilst wearing the deodorant) – so pop back then to see how I got on!

The Sure Max Protection deodorants are available from all leading retailers for £5.30.  You can also buy them online at Boot.com at these links - Sure Maxi Protection Confidence Link and Sure Maxi Protection Sensitive Link!

What is your favourite deodorant?  Have you got any ideas of extra challenges I can put myself through?

Wahanda – Mayfair Spa Day!

Who doesn’t love a bit of pampering?  I believe that every now and then everyone deserves a relaxing, pamper day (even men!) – and Wahanda is great for finding absolute pamper package bargains.  Whilst browsing the site I happened upon this package – a 2 for 1 Moroccan Steam Spa Ritual at the Mayfair Spa.  A Moroccan ritual, in Mayfair, with a friend – what could be better!  I quickly snapped it up and booked my appointment with the spa and trotted down to it on Weds.

I chose to take along my new man (wiittt woooooo!!) and the whole experience was absolutely perfect for a couple.  Our apt was booked for 7.30pm but we headed there a little earlier so we could make use of the full facilities, including a steam room, sauna and bucket showers (included in the price of the booking).

1
Water feature in the spa reception.

The Spa Facilities -
The lovely receptionist showed us around the spa and made us feel very welcome. Firstly, the changing rooms were pretty ideal in my opinion.  In the ladies we had full length mirrors, showers, loos, hairdryers, straighteners and even little cotton pads and flannels to use.  We were also given towels, slippers and a dressing gown to wear around the facilities.

The steam room and sauna were small but thankfully were not busy at all, so we had lots of room to spread out and make ourselves comfortable.  There was a sink full of ice so you could close your pores and cool down after using the rooms.  We then headed to the relaxation room where we made ourselves comfortable and helped ourselves to dried fruits, nuts and tea and had a rest on the hammam beds.

The Moroccan Cleansing Ritual -
The ritual was a lot of fun.  We had a lady take us into our own private room in which had a separate private steam room, as well as showers and all the ingredients needed for the cleansing ritual.  She explained exactly what we needed to do and that we could be left to our own devices to complete it.

2
Trays with bowls of mud and scrubs!

We took our trays of ingredients into our steam room and then began the process.  Firstly, apply a white clay mask to the face and neck.  Then apply the mud mask all over your body – this was really fun for a couple (as you would expect!); it was hilarious applying the mud (we must have looked hideous) and a lot of fun.  Finally you have to slap on the dead sea salt mixture and rub into the skin in circular motions to help exfoliate the skin.  Remember that all of this is in a steam room so it gets very hot and steamy but there are cold water hoses to cool yourself down.  After half an hour, two showers come on in the steam room so you can wash everything off.

After drying yourself (or each other!) you can use a body oil to moisturize the skin – this was pretty much olive oil but it was very light and easy to sink in to the skin.  Afterwards we made our way back in to the relaxation room and chilled out (I felt so relaxed I could have easily fallen asleep!).

Afterwards my skin was SO soft and it still is now.  It was a lovely experience and something I could get used to monthly.  I think this would also be a nice treat for a best friend or for some bonding time with your mum (remember its Mother’s day today!).  I have actually done another steam ritual very similar to this with my sister in the past which was also very funny (lots of giggling) so you definitely do not need a boyf to do this with.

Once you purchase the deal on Wahanda, you have a year to book the actual treatment with the spa so this would also make a nice gift to someone.

You can browse the Wahanda spa days deals at this link - http://www.wahanda.com/spa-days/ – let me know if you end up booking anything!

Have you ever booked something from Wahanda?  What spa package would you have chosen and who would you have taken?!

Please note: Wahanda offered me a voucher contributing to the pamper package of my choice but this does not affect my honesty or opinions!

How to: Dramatic Smokey Eye Tutorial!

I was talking about my blog the other day with Mother Snooks (she checks it a few times a week to see what I’ve been writing about and to pester me about how bad my grammar is – hiii Mummmy!) and she said that even though I’m a beauty blogger, I don’t actually post photographs of my makeup that often.

I totally agree – I know that reviews and swatch posts are helpful but it’s also nice to see that the blogger whose blog you are reading can actually apply makeup and know what they are doing!  So with this constructive criticism on board, I decided right there and then to start posting more of my makeup looks and to start filming more tutorials so you can copy me!

I decided to start off with a dramatic smokey eye look accompanied by glitter, peach cheeks and nude lips.  I wore this look out to a gig where the theme was ‘sparkle’ so I couldn't resist but add loadsa glitter at the end (you can obviously copy this but without the sparkles, although it makes a nice look for NYE or parties etc!).

This is the look I am wearing in my ‘top 10 fav high street lipsticks’ video as well FYI!)

HD Brows Treatment Review!

I have such a thing for eyebrows as you probably know; years of bushy brows have made me aware of how much they can change and alter your face shape, so when the name HD Brows started appearing on line and in my makeup bag I became intrigued with this whole phenomena.

a2
A snapshoot from the Glossybox video!

GLOSSYBOX filmed the whole process of getting HD Brows AND Blink + Go Lashes (my review of that treatment here!) with me on the day, so you can see exactly what happens as well as before and after shots!

HD Brows procedure – Before I had the treatment, I knew that HD Brows made makeup products to keep brows looking fabulous, but it wasn’t until I did a bit more research that I fully understood the concept.  HD Brows is actually a ‘7-step’ treatment, developed by the Noveau Beauty Group, to leave with you the best brows for your face.

BEFORE & AFTER
Right brow -
1
Left brow-
2
3

The 7 steps are as follows –

1) Consultation -  with your stylist to determine which brow shape will best suit your face, what colour your brows should be and filling in a few forms with basic details.

2) Tinting – If you have thin, or over plucked brows, you don’t need to worry as the consultant will tint your brows to match your hair or natural colour.  My consultant chose a greyish black colour, as my brows are naturally quite dark and because I adore striking brows.  The dye is left on for a minute and is then swept off with cotton pads.

3) Waxing – I’ve had my brows waxed before and so I knew that I could handle the pain, but to be honest, I find waxing around the eye area is relatively pain free.  The consultant uses a specially created wax to ensure that it doesn’t pull or hurt the skin, and this is used to create the arch.

4) Trimming – Your brows are then combed through and trimmed to match sure they are tame and of the same length.

5) Threading – Now this is the bit I was most worried about.  I have heard horror stories about threading, but it was over so quickly it really wasn’t as bad as I was expecting.  Threading is used above the brow to blend the hairs in naturally to the rest of your face.

6) Tweezing – This was the most uncomfortable part of the process in my opinion!  My back kept twitching when my consultant was plucking and it was making me sneeze, but for the outcome it was worth it!

7) Aftercare – Your consultant will then run through how to care for your new brows and will fill in any sparse areas with the HD brow kit as well as setting the brows with the HD Brows ‘Brow Beater’.  I asked my consultant, Jane, to show me how to fill my brows in with the powder as I was unsure and unconfident in how to do it myself.

Screenprints from the Glossybox video!

What I think – I have got to say, this is probably the best beauty treatment I have EVER had done.  Having perfect brows completely enhanced my facial features and made any makeup look, look ten times better.  It has been around 3 months since I had them done and my brows are now getting a little unmanageable again, so I’m going to book myself back in and have another HD Brows treatment ASAP.
I honestly never thought that I could have arches in my brows because they were so shapeless and straight – but knowing that having an eyebrow arch is obtainable is amazing – I can’t wait to have HD Brows again.

The HD Brows procedure is available in lots of salons, you can look up the nearest to you at their website here - http://www.hd-brows.co.uk/salon-finder
The price varies but it should be around £25.

I’d like to thank Glossybox, the Karen Betts Salon and the Noveau Beauty Group for giving me the chance to experience HD Brows – I am now a complete fan and can’t wait to have the treatment again.

Have you ever had HD Brows? How do you normally care for your eyebrows?

I am going to write a post about all the products I use to fill my brows in and care for them, very soon!

GLOSSYBOX – Harrods Edition (March)!

This month Glossybox have teamed up with Harrods to bring you a limited edition box!  The samples in the box are all products which can be found in Harrods Beauty Hall, so this box is a bunch of designer wonderfulness!  As a Glossybox ambassador I was invited along to Harrods to munch on macaroons with the wonderful Glossybox team to learn about the collab and to preview the boxes!

Warning: spoilers!

2

1

Inside my box I received -

Molton Brown Heavenly Gingerlily Moisture Bath & Shower – My whole family are complete lovers of Molton Brown (we have their Naranji hand washes next to every sink) but I haven’t used any of their shower gels before, so it was nice to see this in my box.  This smells absolutely lovely – a very feminine mature scent so I’m looking forward to using this!

YSL Forever Youth Liberator Serum – I’m always a little weary when it comes to skincare products in beauty boxes as my skin is so acne prone I’m worried to try out new things, but with a name like YSL on this little serum I’m definitely going to give it a go around my eye area.  A full size of this is £60 (for 30mls) and the packaging is lovely.

Clarins Extra-Firming Body Cream – I can’t say that I need a firming body cream just yet, but I’m going to start applying this to my thighs and chest area now.  This is actually my first ever Clarins product so I’m looking forward to seeing what all the hype is about!

Narcisco Rodriguez For Her EDP – Perfume samples are always a little tricky, but obviously  the point of them is to try them out and see how they smell on your skin for a week or so to see if you like it.  I’d say I’ve received around 10 perfume samples in the last few months and I’ve never thought about buying a full sized one (out of the samples I’ve tried)… up until now!
Oh my, ladies, this perfume is to die for!  I absolutely LOVE this smell and I feel like it suits my personality completely.  It’s a really familiar smell which I know I’ve smelt before - (probably on a posh woman on the tube) and I just think it oozes sophistication and glamour.  This costs £55 for a full size, so I’ll definitely be saving up for one of these.

Burberry Miniature Lip Cover in Rosewood 04 – A MINI BURBERRY LIPSTICK, wa-wa-wooaah!!! The packaging of this mini lipstick is so intricate and beautiful that I didn’t want to use it! My Dad has been working with Burberry for the past few years, (building their new website) and I’ve asked him countless number of times to bring me home a Burberry lipstick (he still hasn’t), so I’m happy to have received this! The colour I got isn’t one I’d usually wear, it’s a dark brownish pink, but it looks quite natural on my lips so its okay!

3

What I think – I really love this box – the products inside feel and look really luxurious and I’m sure any woman would love this box to try out (perfect for Mother’s Day!).
The perfume sample in this Glossy Box is a big reminder that not everything will be for everyone, but you have to try out a few samples before you find something perfect for you, so I’d like to say thank you Harrods and Glossy Box for introducing me to this Narcisco Rodriguez fragrance!

Other brands in the box include Bliss, Fendi, Valentino, SK-11, Revive, Versace and Ojon!

As usual, the box is £10 (plus p&p) and you can sign up on the Glossybox website!

What do you think of this designer beauty box?

PIXI Beauty store in Carnaby Street!

On Wednesday I made my way down to Carnaby street, where I stopped off at the Pixi store (22a Fouberts Place) for the launch of their new Tinkerbell Disney range.  I had never been to the store before but I am so glad I have now discovered it, it’s an absolute treasure trove of beautiful Pixi products!

Warning – quite picture heavy!

2

Treats on the night!
1

The whole store is lined with high shelving units, filled with beautiful products in adorable packaging.  Everything in the store is displayed to perfection!

Had to take a photograph of these powders as it looks like they have a really good colour range available.
3

Words can not describe how much I want these palettes right now – how perfect are they for every day use?!  I need them in my life!

Another absolutely gorgeous product which I’m craving.  The left side is for the cheeks and the right side is all eye shadows – again, perfect for travelling and a gorgeous selection of easy to wear shades.  Also love the light cardboard packaging.
4

WANT!
5

One of the best things about this store is the incredible selection of nail polishes!
The POP shades are absolutely gorgeous ranging from neon peaches to glitters and the Pixi shades are beautifully girly and perfect for spring/summer!
6

Lip Twins & Eye Crayons & Kohl pencils.  All of the kohl pencils seem incredibly pigmented and soft – as shown in the swatch photograph.  Perfect for adding a hint of colour to your eyes!

I know that I haven’t actually included ANY of the LE Tinkerbell range in this post, but its only because I am so overwhelmed with Pixi’s permanent products!  I can’t believe that I hadn’t heard of the brand before and I will definitely be purchasing an eyeshadow palette or two.

I will be posting about the Tinkerbell collection very soon and will also include a FOTD wearing the range so you can see how it looks on the skin!

You can buy or browse Pixi products online at – http://www.pixibeauty.co.uk/index.html or in the Flagship store at 22a Fouberts Place.

Have you heard of or bought anything from Pixi before?  What catches your eye most in this post (apart from the cupcakes, haha!)?

FOTD - 17’s Spring Beauty Challenge!

I was recently contacted by 17 asking if I wanted to be a part of their blogger makeup challenge (exciting!). The challenge was to create a fresh ‘Spring’ makeup look using 17’s Limited Edition Spring products and I jumped at the chance to be involved. I’ve never entered a makeup competition before but I love the idea of creating a look from scratch with a few select products.

Now I did a brainstorm and had a few ideas in mind of the looks I could create, but I decided to go for my gut instinct and create a pretty, fresh, feminine look which I feel completely portrays an English Rose.

I decided to concentrate on pale skin, rosy pink cheeks and lips, bronze eyes with a hint of green (the leaves of a rose). I’m pretty happy with the look I created and I love how this whole look is made with 17 products – all of which are so affordable and easy to use.

ENGLISHROSE1
ENGLISHROSE2

For the eyes -
- I applied the 17 Blemish Balm around the eyes and on the eyelids, it is oil free so it will act as a primer.
- With an eyeshadow brush, I dusted the lightest shade in Hazy Days palette on the whole eye lid, right up to the brow bone.
- Then I sweeped on the brown eye shadows from the Hazy Days palette on the crease of the eye and blend in.
- I also crushed up a few bronzing balls from the Instant Glow Bronzing Rocks jar and applied them to the crease of my eye with a brush – this added extra shimmer as well as a little more colour.
- To create a flick on my top lash line I used 17’s Liquid Liner
- I used the green shade from the Hazy Days palette to line beneath my lower lash line to add a pop of colour.
- I then line my waterline’s with 17’s kohl pencil, and also smudged a little into the green under my eye.
I then used the new 17 Va Va Voom mascara to give length and volume to my lashes!

For the face -
- I used the 17 Blemish Balm in Light all over my face and settled with a face powder (I also added a little concealer on my blemishes and under my eyes).
- To contour my face and add shape, I used the incredible Instant Glow Medium Bronze Bronzing Powder just under my cheek bones.
- To add a beautiful flush of colour to my cheeks I used the 17 Blusher in In Bloom and applied to the apple of my cheeks with a blusher brush.

For the lips -
- To create full, colourful lips I only used one product – the 17 Berry Crush Lip Stain. I applied the lip balm from one end of the stick to my lips, and once dry I applied a few coats of the lip stain.

Products used – Berry Crush Lip Stain, Va Va Voom Mascara, Liquid Liner, Instand Glow Bronzing Rocks, Spring Brights ‘Hazy Days’ Palette, Blusher in In Bloom and Instant Glow Medium Bronze Bronzing Powder. Also used Blemish Balm in Light and Kohl Pencil which I stupidly forgot to include in the photograph!

IMG_0340 enlgishrose3

I have really enjoyed taking part in this little challenge and I have also loved the idea of creating a whole look with just one makeup brand. 17 in Boots is known for being very affordable but of a good quality.
I’m thinking of doing more little challenges like this for example a look creating solely of Body Shop products, or Sleek products? What do you all think?

The whole Spring Range launches today (1st March) in store. I have also just check the Boots website and all 17 products are currently on 3 for 2 so if you see anything you like the look of from the Spring collection then pick it up now! I am going to reviewing lots of the products used in this FOTD individually as well, if you are interested!

Also – a little heads up, if I win this competition then I get a makeup lesson from a the 17 makeup artist, Vanessa Guallar as well as two 17 goody bags to give away to readers, so fingers crossed!

Do you like this English Rose look I created? What other brand challenges should I set myself?
